Choosing The Right Desktop Pcs

Choosing the right desktop PC for your small business can be tricky and will take a lot of consideration. It will be helpful if you know exactly what you require from your computer for you and your employees. The type of business that you run will be a factor in choosing the right computer, and leasing should be an option as far as cost is concerned.

Desktop PCs and Your Business

The type of business your run will be a factor in the type of desktop PC you choose. If you simply run a small business that does not use a computer for more than keeping records and accounts then a basic computer will suit your needs. However, if your business is reliant on computers, such as a graphic design company, then choosing the right computer will be important.

A lot of business computers will have specs that are specifically applicable to certain business areas. Certain computer capabilities relating to your business should be brought up with technology salespeople when making your decision.

Choosing the Right Desktop PC

Desktop PCs come with a range of different functions and specs, and if you are not technically minded it can be confusing. It is easy to become confused by factors such as memory, processors, hard drives and even the right screen to pick. But there are basics to look out for when choosing your computer and a good technology salesman should know the right computer to meet your business requirements.

What to Look for When Choosing a Computer

Knowing the right questions to ask when buying your computer should help you make the right choice. Do some of your own research in order to know what the basic computer terms actually mean. The main factors to look out for and ask the salesperson are:

  • The computer’s networking capabilities including wireless options.
  • The amount of hard drive space available on the computer.
  • External storage options such as a CD or DVD burner.
  • Processor speed, the faster the better, go for at least a dual-core processor.
  • The memory available (RAM); always better to spend extra in order to obtain more memory, 1GB and over should be enough.
  • Data backup systems are a vital requirement but may cost extra.
  • Type of monitors and keyboards available.
  • The actual operating system such as Windows XP.
These are basic computer requirements and a salesperson should be able to talk you through the exact requirements for your business needs. Upgrading will be a factor when buying desktop PCs, but a good computer should have a life of around at least three years before hardware upgrades are required.

Leasing or Buying Your Desktop PC

Buying may be a good option for small start up businesses where only one computer is needed. But if a business requires multiple computers then leasing will be the best option. With leasing there is nothing up front to pay, you know exactly how much you are paying every month and repairs should be included. Upgrades should come as part of the deal once the initial contract has expired or is near expiry. Leasing is an excellent option for businesses on a budget, and unlike buying, you will not be left with outdated technology after a few years.

Desktop Package Extras

Desktop PC buyers should beware of buying complete computer packages at bargain prices. Although they may initially look like a good deal in price the packages may not actually meet your business requirements. For instance that free ink printer that comes with the bargain package may not be much use if you intend do a lot of printing every day; a laser printer may be needed. Bargain computer packages may be good for a simple home computer kit but will probably not meet business requirements.

Research is the key to choosing the right desktop PC for your business. Getting expert help from business technology advisors or consultants will be a good option in finding the right computer for your business. Sticking to the well known business brands is advisable in order to ensure quality, reliability and longevity in your chosen desktop PC.
